Reuters poll targets S&P 500 at around 5,900 by end of 2025

Between May 15 and 28, Reuters surveyed market participants about the S&P 500’s projected value at the end of 2025. Around fifty experts participated in the study. According to their average estimate, the stock will be trading near current levels at around 5,900 points by December. This marks a downward revision from strategists’ February forecast of 6,500 points.

There's been a wave of declining expectations for the US stock market because of Donald Trump's uncertain trade policy. The unpredictable introduction of US import tariffs and related disputes have increased the volatility of the S&P 500 index. Experts polled by Reuters predict that market conditions will remain unstable in the near future.

Sameer Samana of Wells Fargo Investment Institute compares the president’s tariffs to a tax burden that would fall on American consumers, businesses, and international manufacturers alike.

According to LSEG data, S&P 500 earnings for 2025 will increase by 8.4% compared to 12.1% for 2024. Although the forecast is quite favorable, it contrasts sharply with the previously expected 14%, the firm notes.
