Tesla recently announced that the project to expand production capacity at its Shanghai plant had been completed. According to Bloomberg, the American electric car manufacturer is currently sending engineers and production staff from its Shanghai plant in an effort to increase production in Fremont, California.
About 200 people will be sent to the United States, the majority of them are automation and control systems engineers. With this move, the company could boost production at its Fremont plant, where the entire Model S, X, 3 and Y line is produced. As reported by Bloomberg, the employees will work on assignments that will last at least three months. Some of them will be able to start work as early as this month.
In September, Tesla announced the company delivered a record-breaking 83,135 electric cars to China. The company could make it after it had finished upgrading production lines at its Shanghai factory. It took about five weeks to complete the expansion project but it doubled annual production capacity to about 1 million vehicles. The plant in Fremont now has a capacity of about 650,000 vehicles per year.
During Tesla’s earnings call, Elon Musk made a statement reporting that logistical problems were the obstacle for the company to increase electric cars deliveries at the end of the last quarter. He added that Tesla needs to solve delivery problems, as there is insufficient number of vehicles to transport them.
