Federal regulators approved the reopening of the Freeport LNG natural gas exporter plant in Texas.
However, Freeport has not yet applied for permission to restart its natural gas liquefied lines for export. LNG production will be resumed later with federal approval.
Energy analysts predict that most of the plant's production is going to be suspended until March or later.
The plant was closed due to a pipeline explosion on June 8, 2022. Production could be resumed only after an extensive safety inspection by federal regulators.
The U.S. Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and the Department of Transportation's Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) approved the procedure to cool down some pipeline systems of Freeport.
