The European Commission and the European Central Bank have granted Bulgaria approval to adopt the euro from the beginning of 2026. According to the convergence report, the country's economy aligns with regional peers and meets all formal criteria for euro adoption, reports Investing.com.
According to the online source, Bulgaria has sought to adopt the euro since joining the EU in 2007. However, an Eurobarometer survey reveals that 50% of the population remains skeptical about this government decision. Joining the eurozone entails not only using the euro, but also securing a seat at the European Central Bank's Governing Council.
Bulgaria will adopt the euro three years after Croatia joined the single currency area in 2023 as part of EU enlargement, Investing.com notes.
