Beijing's ambassador to U.S. says China will keep easing anti-COVID controls

As it was told by China’s ambassador to the U.S. on Monday, the country’s authorities are going to further ease its COVID-19 restrictions. He also added that China is planning to have more visitors from abroad in the near future.

At a Semafor event, dedicated to China-Africa relations, Ambassador Qin Gang stated that Chinese leaders are aware of people’s concerns. As he said, the measures are already being eased, and he suspects the further relaxation of measures would follow, thus facilitating international travel.

A recent visit of two U.S. officials to China has become another important evidence of loosening controls. The mentioned U.S. representatives arrived in the country to aid in preparation for a visit by Secretary of State Antony Blinken. Blinken’s trip is scheduled in the coming weeks, and it will become the highest level visit of a U.S. official since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
