US sees increase in oil and natural gas rigs
According to data from Baker Hughes, the oil and gas rig count rose to 779 in the US.
The US company said in its report that US firms added rigs for the first time in four weeks. The data was released one day ahead of schedule due to the holidays in the country.
The oil and gas rig count, an early indicator of future output,hit 779 in the week from December 16 to 22, up three rigs from the previous week.
US oil rigs rose two to 622 this week, while gas rigs increased three. There are 155 gas rigs in the US now.
