The gradual easing of China’s restrictive Covid Zero policy caused a rapid surge in Covid cases. Regarding this, many countries began to introduce stricter entry rules for visitors from China to provide epidemiological safety. However, European health officials consider these measures excessive and unjustified.
On Thursday, December 29, the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) stated that Europeans have high levels of protection against the virus. The ECDC also stressed that Europe’s health systems will be able to control the current epidemiological situation and challenges it might face.
The ECDC data show that strains currently prevalent in China are already present in Europe. Therefore, the possibility of new infection remains quite low.
Despite these optimistic forecasts, officials continue to monitor the situation in China, staying in contact with local health systems.
