Today, Motional, an American autonomous vehicle company, and Uber entered into an agreement. According to it, Motional will provide Uber with new all-electric IONIQ 5-based robotaxis to start giving fully driverless rides.
Earlier, Motional announced a food delivery service using autonomous cars for Uber Eats customers in California, which turned out to be successful. Motional and Uber decided to expand their delivery zone to service more restaurants. The new agreement that will remain in effect for 10 years will allow Motional to become the first self-driving car company to offer delivery and ride-hailing services. The partnership will encourage the active adoption of driverless vehicles.
Karl Iagnemma, President and CEO of Motional, confirmed it, adding that the company has access to a large passenger base and service area now, which will be expanded significantly over the next ten years.
