Cyclyx International, ExxonMobil and LyondellBasell signed an agreement to build a unique plastic waste sorting and recycling plant in Houston.
The plant that is expected in 2024 will be built in the Greater Houston area. It is assumed that the plant will produce 150,000 metric tons (330 million pounds) of plastic feedstock annually, which will provide a source of recyclable plastic for ExxonMobil and LyondellBasell recycling projects.
According to Dave Andrew, vice president of new market development at ExxonMobil, to increase the overall recycling rate in the US and meet growing consumer demand for recycled products, government and industry representatives must invest more in waste collection and sorting. With this initiative, the company makes infrastructure for sorting plastic waste more advanced and contributes to the development of its recycling plants in Baytown and along the Gulf Coast.
